The Venice Glass Week: where to stay and what to see in Venice

The fourth edition of the international festival dedicated to the art of glass will take place in Venice. You can travel to this fascinating city from the 5th to the 13th of September 2020, and take the opportunity to participate in The Venice Glass Week.

With a programme involving events, exhibitions, guided tours and much more, focusing on the creation and “making” of this precious material. The island of Murano is, in fact, famous throughout the world, not only nationally, for the traditions and compositions handed down from generation to generation. It is also a festival dedicated to developing and reviving the sector, in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

To engage an international audience, a new plan has been created: this corresponds to the Conversations on Glass by Apice, a company that deals with transferring the most famous works of art. This will be streamed live on The Venice Glass Week’s official Youtube channel, always in accordance with the set dates. This popularises the exhibition and spreads the knowledge of this art, even among those who are not able to travel. In particular, speakers will lead you to reflect on the importance of this material, demonstrating various types of themes and relating glass to modernism.

Naturally, in collaboration with Nexa, official partner for the organisation of events and meetings, you will be able to participate in guided tours arranged by the same agency. This part of the festival is referred to as The Venice Glass Week Tours by Nexa, and you will be treated to the unparalleled glassmaking show. This will be developed through the creation of small groups, in a small and intimate setting, in compliance with the regulations issued to curb the COVID-19 emergency. The guided tours will start exclusively from the 7th to the 13th of September. They will take place in Murano and Venice, in workshops, companies and furnaces that have always exalted both the glass transformation process and the raw material itself. Precisely for this reason, the guides, trained and experienced in the field, will guide you through local history, national and international, handed down for millennia.

Of course, you and your family shouldn’t miss out on all the activities dedicated to you and your children. For the first time, we are introducing the Kids Program by Artsystem, which offers educational events for young and old, satisfying your expectations while keeping boredom at bay. The educational staff will lead your children along the streets and points of interest of Murano or the city of Venice. Get ready for unmissable encounters with artists, in which families can also participate, tackling recreational and educational activities. In this way, while the kids learn about this artistic sphere for the first time, adults will be able to rediscover this magical material in an alternative and stress-free way. On the festival’s social profiles, including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, an awareness-raising campaign called #MettiamociIlCuore has been launched, inviting all participants to post a 30-second video explaining why glass makes their hearts beat faster. Your footage will be replayed, shared and made public on the above-mentioned sites.

How to get to and get around the city of Venice

Venice is certainly one of the most popular destinations for tourists and, for this reason, it is quite easy to get here. First of all, there are two airports: Marco Polo and Treviso.

The first is located just 8 km from the centre, while the second is about 40 km further north. However, both are easily connected to the heart of Venice by low-cost buses, transfer services, traditional taxis as well as water taxis. These taxis are the preferred choice for people travelling in groups who want to get around at an affordable price. There are also many airlines that reach this city at a reasonable price, such as Ryanair, Alitalia and Easyjet. If you want to reach Venice from the two main airports we suggest you check the website of this bus transport company; the trip will take place in total safety and with the maximum level of comfort. Go to the official website to calculate the price of tickets and purchase them. On the website, you can also buy weekly tickets valid from Monday to Sunday. To learn more about Murano glass, you can also reach your destination by train, arriving at Santa Lucia Station, with inexpensive fares. Finally, you might be interested in travelling by car, but the daily rates of parking garages are very high.

Where to stay in Venice

When it comes to planning your stay, it is often difficult to find hotels, B&Bs or accommodation at an affordable price. The Travel Bonds website allows you to search for those perfect facilities that will meet your every need. It corresponds to an online platform that gives you price reductions with discounts on some of the properties participating in the project.
