The Feast of the Redeemer 2024 in Venice is one of the city’s most famous and spectacular events. Discover everything you need to know to participate in this unique celebration.
History of the Feast of the Redeemer
This tradition dates back to 1577 when the terrible plague that had struck the city two years earlier ceased to torment the population. The Venetians’ joy was so great that they decided to build a temple for Christ the Redeemer. The task of designing the building was assigned to one of the best architects of the time: Andrea Palladio. The construction was completed in 1592, and since then, every year, confraternities and faithful gather to celebrate the end of the epidemic of ’77.
