The International Art Exhibition returns to Venice from 23 April to 27 November 2022. This is the 59th edition and is curated by Cecilia Alemani.

The Art Biennale is one of the most famous and prestigious cultural institutions in the world and is held every two years in Venice, between the Giardini and the Arsenale.
First held in 1895, the Art Biennale marks its 127th year of history with this event, as it continues to be at the cutting edge in promoting new artistic trends.

The milk of dreams

Each edition follows a specific theme and the theme for 2022 is “The Milk of Dreams – Il latte dei Sogni“, which takes its title from a book of fairy tales by Leonora Carrington, as Cecilia Alemani, curator of this year’s Art Biennale, explains.
The surrealist artist describes a magical world in which life is constantly reinvented through the imagination, thanks to which it is possible to change, transform and become something different from oneself.

How is the definition of human changing? What are the differences that separate the plant, the animal, the human and the non-human? What are our responsibilities towards our fellow human beings, other life forms and the planet we inhabit? And what would life be like without us?

These are among the questions leading this Biennale Arte, whose research focuses in particular on three themed areas: the representation of bodies and their metamorphoses; the relationship between individuals and technologies; the links between bodies and the Earth.
