Carnival is finally here!
From Saturday 12 February until Tuesday 1 March, Venice is donning masks to live out its most iconic party after two long years of waiting.
Due to Covid, however, this Carnival will be more contained: there will be no parades, floats or stages, nor will there be the famous Flights of the Angel, the Eagle and the Lion over Piazza San Marco, which traditionally close the Carnival on Shrove Tuesday.
So what will happen in Venice during Carnival 2022?

Venice Carnival Programme 2022
Even though it will take place in a more contained form, this Carnival will still be glorious and full of events throughout the city. On the other hand, the Venetian Carnival is a milestone of the lagoon city; it has ancient origins and attracts tourists from all over the world who can’t wait to wander the canals wearing the characteristic Venetian masks.
There are three main events this year: the Venice Wonder Time, the Nebula Solaris Water Show in the Arsenale and the Carnival Official Dinner Show.
- Venice Wonder Time is a set of different musical and circus performances that will take place in different points of Venice and Mestre on Saturday 12, Sunday 13, Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 February, as well as during the “fat week” from Thursday 24 January to Tuesday 1 March, from 11:00 to 13:00.
- The Nebula Solaris Water Show is by Opera Fiammae and Viorica and features numerous water games and acrobatics. It will be held on Friday 18, Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 February and from Thursday 24 February to Tuesday 1 at 18:45 and 21:15 at the Arsenale.
- The Carnival Official Dinner Show is a masked dinner accompanied by a show with a beautiful atmosphere that takes you back to the Venice of the 1600s. This unusual banquet will take place on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 February, as well as during “fat week”, at Ca’ Vendramin Calergi. The price is €500 per person.
In addition to these main events there will also be ice skating rinks in Campo San Polo and in Piazza Mercato in Marghera, to the delight of both little ones and not so little ones.
In Piazza San Marco and Piazza Ferretto in Mestre you can also enter the competition for the most beautiful mask of the carnival, and get lost among the many cultural events organised for the occasion by the city’s theatres and museums.
