In this article we want to tell you the main features of the feast of San Marco and the legend of Bocolo.<\/p>\n

Why is the bocolo given as a present on 25 April in Venice? the oldest legend<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The legend of the Bocolo<\/strong>\u00a0(or of the Boccolo)\u00a0boasts an ancient tradition as it dates back to the end of the IX century<\/strong>, precisely to the years\u00a0between 864 and 881<\/strong>\u00a0when Orso I Partecipazio became the Doge of Venice.<\/p>\n

The daughter of the Dodge<\/strong>, Maria (also known as Vulcana by virtue of the particular splendor of her eyes)\u00a0fell in love with Tancredi<\/strong>, a young man of humble origins who could not aspire to marry her or receive the blessing from the Doge. So\u00a0he decided to go to war<\/strong>, in order to obtain glory and honors and once he returned to Venice he would be able to marry his beloved.<\/p>\n

During the battles Tancredi distinguished himself for his courage and valor and his exploits soon reached Venice, and Vulcana anxiously awaited his return. Unfortunately one day, during a battle with the Moors of Spain, he was mortally wounded and, falling on a rose garden<\/strong>, his blood stained a rose bud with red, which he gave to his friend Orlando before he died, asking him to deliver it to Vulcana as his pledge of love.<\/p>\n

The day after the delivery of this bud, precisely on\u00a0April 25th<\/strong>, Maria was found dead in her bed, with the bud soaked in the blood of her beloved on her chest; since then the bud became the symbol of undying love for the Venetians.<\/p>\n

Why is the bocolo given as a present on 25 April in Venice? a more modern story<\/h3>\n

The Venetians, however, also have a different version of the legend of Bocolo.\u00a0The legend tells of two young lovers who belonged to two enemy branches of the same family<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

They had gardens in common that were divided by a rose garden on which, however, roses had long since bloomed and which began to flower again as soon as the two fell in love.\u00a0The rose garden came from the place where the remains of San Marco Evangelista were buried and the young man broke off a bud which he gave to his sweetheart and which also represented the end of hostilities between the two families<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Perch\u00e9 il 25 aprile a Venezia si regala il bocolo? la leggenda pi\u00f9 antica<\/h3>\r\nLa leggenda del Bocolo (o del Boccolo) vanta una tradizione antichissima in quanto risale alla fine del\u00a0IX secolo<\/strong>, precisamente agli anni compresi tra l\u2019864<\/strong>\u00a0e l\u2019881<\/strong>\u00a0quando assunse la carica di\u00a0Doge di Venezia Orso I Partecipazio<\/strong>.\r\n\r\nLa figlia di questi, Maria (conosciuta anche con il nome di Vulcana in virt\u00f9 del particolare splendore dei suoi occhi) si innamor\u00f2 ricambiata di Tancredi<\/strong>, un giovane dalle umili origini che non poteva ambire a sposarla n\u00e9 a ricevere la benedizione da parte del Doge. Per cui decise di partire per la guerra, in modo da ottenere gloria e onori e una volta ritornato a Venezia poter sposare la sua amata.\r\n\r\nDurante le battaglie Tancredi si distinse per il suo coraggio e valore e le sue gesta arrivarono ben presto a Venezia, con Vulcana che aspettava ansiosa il suo ritorno. Purtroppo un giorno, durante una battaglia con i Mori di Spagna fu ferito a morte e, cadendo su un roseto il suo sangue tinse di rosso un bocciolo di rosa, che prima di morire consegn\u00f2 al suo amico Orlando, chiedendogli di consegnarlo alla sua Vulcana come pegno d\u2019amore.\r\n\r\nIl giorno successivo alla consegna di questo bocciolo, precisamente il 25 aprile, Maria fu trovata morta nel suo letto, con il bocciolo intriso del sangue del suo amato sul petto; da allora il bocciolo divenne per i veneziani il simbolo di un amore imperituro.<\/strong>\r\n
