If you want to go into Venice\u2019s surroundings and visit another charming area of the\u00a0Bel Paese<\/i>,\u00a0I strongly suggest you visit the city of Vicenza<\/strong>\u00a0which has been\u00a0part of UNESCO World Heritage List since 1994<\/strong>. If you love history and nature, here you will find what\u2019s made for you! One of the most interesting things I suggest you should experience is\u00a0the itinerary of Palladian villas<\/strong>, historical places which strongly represent the extraordinary architectural ability of Palladio.<\/p>\n

Andrea Palladio<\/h3>\n

Who was Palladio?<\/strong>\u00a0Andrea di Pietro della Gondola, as known as Palladio, was born in Padua in 1508. His huge turning point takes place between 1535 and 1538:\u00a0he meets\u00a0Giangiorgio Trissino<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0who personally takes care of his training and takes him to Rome. Here is where he meets Michelangelo, Sebastiano Serlio, Giulio Romano and Bramante and dives into the majestic architectural works of that time period.<\/p>\n

Why is he still remembered?<\/strong>\u00a0Most of all, because he designed and built the Palladian villas, Venetian style houses which aristocratic and higher middle-class families commissioned to him. The concept of the villa also took on its own transformation thanks to him:\u00a0from being a holiday and resting place it became a real and proper productive complex<\/strong>\u00a0consisted of cultivated land, stables and vineyards. Hence, a mansion!<\/p>\n

If you want to join this tour, I suggest you start with\u00a0Villa Almerico Capra<\/strong>,\u00a0as known as the Rotonda<\/strong>, an authentic masterpiece of Palladian art.The works to erect Villa Almerico Capra, as known as the Rotonda, started around 1570 under the commission of cardinal Paolo Almerico.<\/p>\n

Palladio, granting the cardinal\u2019s wishes, designs a\u00a0sort of \u201ctemple villa\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0which could be used both as a representative building and as the perfect place to retire at and meditate and study.<\/p>\n

The main characteristic of the Villa is the dome built above, giving it the nickname of \u201cRotonda\u201d. The dome\u2019s conception\u00a0took inspiration from the Roman Pantheon<\/strong>, and it\u2019s said that at the beginning it was conceived with a hole at the top of it, ending up with being more flat and closed.<\/p>\n

Inside you will admire all the rooms as much as the noble floor with the circular hall with its walls showing Dorigny\u2019s frescos and the space filled with the sculptures of Albanese and Vittoria.\u00a0The park with its romantic set deserves one last look of admiration<\/strong>, adding a fantastic view on the surrounding countryside.<\/p>\n

VILLA TRISSINO<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Another villa you must see is the one by Giangiorgio Trissino, Palladio\u2019s scout. Just to have an idea of the original design of Villa Trissino, it might be interesting to read the drawing table of\u00a0\u201cThe Four Books of Architecture\u201d where Palladio talks about an impressive structure<\/strong>, built on different levels,\u00a0inspired by the schemes of the Greek Acropolis.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Palladian design considered a main building made of a round central hall, covered by a dome and surrounded by other rooms.<\/p>\n

Only the beautiful dovecote tower<\/strong>, four aisles of the colannade with its Tuscan columns and a second symmetric colannade remain from the majestic project. Outside, there is a wonderful Italian garden enclosed by a perimeter where you can find some relief while observing the nature.<\/p>\n

Chi era il Palladio?<\/strong> Andrea di Pietro della Gondola, detto il Palladio<\/u><\/strong><\/a>, nasce a Padova nel 1508. Tra il 1535 e il 1538 avviene la grande svolta: conosce Giangiorgio Trissino che si occupa personalmente della sua formazione e lo porta a Roma. Qui incontra Michelangelo, Sebastiano Serlio, Giulio Romano e Bramante<\/strong> e viene a contatto con le grandi opere architettoniche dell'epoca. <\/span><\/p>

Perch\u00e8 viene ricordato?<\/strong> Soprattutto per avere realizzato le ville palladiane<\/strong>, dimore in stile veneto che Palladio realizz\u00f2 su commissione per le famiglie aristocratiche ed alto borghesi. Con lui il concetto di villa si trasforma radicalmente: da luogo di villeggiatura e di riposo a vero e proprio complesso produttivo<\/strong> fatto di campi coltivati, stalle e vigneti. Insomma, una reggia!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>

Se vuoi fare questo tour, ti consiglio di iniziare da Villa Almerico Capra, detta la Rotonda<\/strong>, autentico capolavoro dell\u2019arte palladiana.<\/span><\/p>

Ville del Palladio: Americo Capra, detta \"la Rotonda\"<\/strong><\/h3>

I lavori per erigere Villa Almerico Capra, detta la Rotonda<\/strong>, iniziano intorno al 1570 su commissione del Cardinale Paolo Almerico. <\/span><\/p>

Palladio, esaudendo i desideri del Cardinale, erige una sorta di \"villa-tempio\"<\/strong> che abbia \"funzioni di rappresentanza\", ma che allo stesso tempo sia il luogo perfetto in cui ritirarsi a meditare e studiare. <\/span><\/p>

La caratteristica principale della villa consiste nella cupola<\/strong>, che contribuisce a darle l\u2019epiteto di \u201cRotonda\u201d. La cupola si ispira al Pantheon romano e in origine pare che anch'essa dovesse essere aperta da un oculo, ma alla fine fu realizzata schiacciata e chiusa.<\/span><\/p>

Al suo interno potrai ammirare gli ambienti di servizio ed il piano nobile con il salone circolare<\/strong>, con incantevoli pareti affrescate di Dorigny e sculture di Albanese e del Vittoria. Merita un giro finale il parco d'impostazione romantica<\/strong>, da cui si gode una fantastica vista sulla campagna circostante.<\/span><\/p>

Ville del Palladio: Villa Trissino<\/strong><\/h3>

Un\u2019altra villa che non puoi perderti \u00e8 la villa di Giangiorgio Trissino, scopritore del Palladio. <\/strong><\/span>Per avere un\u2019idea del progetto originario di Villa Trissino \u00e8 interessante leggere la tavola de \u201cI Quattro Libri dell\u2019Architettura\u201d, dove Palladio parla di una struttura imponente, articolata su pi\u00f9 livelli<\/strong>, ispirata agli schemi delle acropoli greche.<\/span><\/p>

Il progetto palladiano prevedeva un edificio padronale, composto da una sala rotonda centrale, coperta da un'alta cupola e circondata da stanze. <\/span><\/p>

Del grandioso progetto restano la bella torre colombara, quattro campate della barchessa con colonnato tuscanico e una seconda barchessa simmetrica. Fuori, c\u2019\u00e8 un magnifico giardino all\u2019italiana<\/strong> racchiuso da un muro di cinta dove potrai trovare ristoro e osservare la natura.<\/span><\/p>
